Earthquake in Baguio City June 24, 2013

A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck Baguio City, Philippines on Monday, June 24, 2013, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Philvocs, the temblor hit at 12:49 am and centered at 10km northwest of Baguio City. The quake, which was tectonic in origin and 4km deep, was felt at Intensity IV in the city.

Based on the agency's intensity scale, Intensity IV is described as Moderately Strong, which is felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors and causes light sleepers to be awakened.

"Vibration is felt like a passing of heavy truck. Hanging objects swing considerably. Dinner, plates, glasses, windows and doors rattle. Floors and walls of wood framed buildings creak. Standing motor cars may rock slightly. Liquids in containers are slightly disturbed. Water in containers oscillates strongly. Rumbling sound may sometimes be heard," Phivolcs said in describing Intensity IV.

There were no immediate reports or damage from this recent Baguio City earthquake.
