Benjo Benaldo Suicide Attempt: CdeO Congressman Shoots Self In The Chest - Report

Outgoing Cagayan de Oro Congressman Jose Benjamin "Benjo" Benaldo shot himself in the chest in apparent suicide attempt, InteraAksyon.com reported.

Rep. Benaldo was ushered to the New Era General Hospital after he was found drenched in blood by his staff and security personnel inside his office in the House of Representatives Thursday evening, the report said.

The lawmaker reportedly used a nine-millimeter handgun to shoot himself in the chest. This happened when he was clearing his office for its new occupant since he lost the May 2013 elections.

Citing "well-placed sources from the House of Representatives," the report said Benaldo was "conscious and coherent" when brought to the hospital.

Benjo Benaldo is the husband of Brazilian model and TV personality Daiana Menezes, who recently created buzz after she posted photos on her social media accounts suggesting she is a victim of domestic violence.

Benaldo has since released a statement, saying they have settled their differences. He added that they have been preparing for a "big religious ceremony" after marrying civilly in Las Vegas recently.
