Genelyn Sandaga is set to meet actor-host Luis Manzano in ABS-CBN's "Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal" this Saturday, August 31.

It will mark the 18-year-old viral sensation's first TV appearance after creating online buzz for her covers on Youtube in July.

Genelyn's eight videos on Youtube have amassed a collective number of views of over 1.3 million. Among her most popular covers are "Just Give A Reason" by Pink and "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift.

During this Saturday's episode of "Deal or No Deal," Genelyn will not only choose briefcases and bargain with the Banker but she will also showcase her talent and perform live on stage.

The inspiring life story of Roel Manlangit, the Youtube sensation turned "Pilipinas Got Talent" grand winner, is set to cap off the August 2013 offerings of the longest-running drama anthology on Philippine television and in Asia, "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (MMK).

African Serval, Domestic Cat Crossbreed Shot Dead In Detroit

A Savannah cat, a crossbreed between an African serval cat and a domestic cat, made headlines this month after residents of a northeast Detroit neighborhood spotted the huge feline roaming around the streets for several days. Rumors that the exotic-looking animal was dangerous also circulated.

Latest reports say the cat, named Chum, has been shot and killed by one of the residents. The body of the 25-pound, 3-year-old Savannah cat was found in a garbage can on Monday evening.

The cat's owners, who raised Chum since 4 months old, are heartbroken about the incident. They claim that the cat escaped from their house through screened-in window and that they have been looking for her since. Chum did not have a microchip.

"It was simply ignorance. A Savannah cat is a cross between an African Serval and a domestic cat, and that is it. They’re larger cats, they’re very beautiful, they have a lot of stripes and spots, which I think was more intimidating to people than even the size of the cat, because the cat wasn’t overly huge, about 25 pounds and maybe when it was sitting was probably two feet tall. But they’re very sweet animals, they’re kind of like the dog of the cat world," Laura Wilhelm-Bruzek, with Paws for the Cause Feral Cat Rescue, told WWJ Newsradio 950.

She added, “I think people can’t just go around shooting things they don’t understand. I think we need to be a little bit more respectful of the animals and human beings around us. I’d love to see someone look into it and investigate it. But I’m not holding out a lot of hope. This whole thing from the beginning has just been a mess.”

"Got To Believe" Wins National TV Ratings

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo have once again proven the ‘KathNiel magic’ as their highly anticipated primetime series on ABS-CBN, “Got To Believe” debuted strongly last Monday (August 26).

According to data from Kantar Media, the premiere telecast of “Got To Believe” hit a national TV rating of 34%, or more than twice the viewers who watched its rival show in GMA “Mundo Mo’y Akin” that only scored 16.1%.

Various hashtags related to “Got To Believe” also trended worldwide on the microblogging site Twitter as netizens shared their joy about the show’s debut and their excitement over the introduction to the story of Chichay (Kathryn) and Joaquin (Daniel).

The pilot episode featured the love triangle of sweethearts Jaime (Ian Veneracion) and Betchay (Manilyn Reynes), and Jaime’s boss Julianna (Carmina Villarroel).

Bryan Cranston Role In 'Man Of Steel' Sequel Revealed

Bryan Cranston, best known for his role in AMC's "Breaking Bad," has reportedly been cast as Lex Luthor in the upcoming sequel of "Man of Steel."

According to reports, Cranston's role as Superman's nemesis will be officially confirmed after the series finale of "Breaking Bad" next month. The 57-year-old award-winning actor is set to play Luthor in at least six films in the DC Comics franchise, the reports added.

The said reports came just a few days after it was announced that "Argo" star Ben Affleck will be playing as Batman in the highly anticipated movie. It was previously revealed that the sequel would see Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) facing off against Bruce Wayne.

Other rumored castings for the "Man Of Steel" sequel include Matt Damon as Aquaman and Mark Strong as Green Lantern mentor Sinestro, a role he has played before.

Charice Sings US National Anthem At 2013 Civil Rights Game

Charice performed the United States national anthem before the horde for the 2013 Civil Rights Game between the Chicago White Sox and the Texas Rangers held at the US Cellular Field in Chicago on Saturday, August 24.

It was the 21-year-old platinum-selling recording artist’s first major appearance in the US after coming out as lesbian in June.

While in America, Charice is set to audition for Hollywood films, TV shows and even a reality TV, the singer revealed in an interview with ABS-CBN News earlier this month.

The “Glee” star will reportedly be in Berlin, Germany for a concert with the Russian Orchestra from September 2 to 8. She will be flying back to the Philippines the next day for the launch of her new album, called “Chapter 10.” Also, on October 8, Charice will be in London to record songs for an international album with a Grammy-winning writer and producer. After that and until December, Charice is headed to the US for other commitments.

Because of her busy schedule, Charice had to decline an invitation to perform on “The X Factor Around The World” in Indonesia, her manager told the Philippine Star recently.

Marshall Mathers LP 2 is the sequel to the previously released Marshall Mathers LP, which is Eminem's highest selling and most critically acclaimed album to date.

Released in 2002, Marshall Mathers LP sold more than 1.76 million copies in the US in the first week alone, becoming the fastest-selling studio album by any solo artist in American music history. In 2001, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. The album was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2011 for shipping 10 million copies in the United States.

Crocodile Attack Kills Man In Australia

A crocodile attack killed a young man in Australia over the weekend, local authorities said.

Twenty-six-year-old IT worker Sean Cole of Darwin went to Mary River, which is  about 100km away from the Northern Territory Capital, with a group of friends for a friend's 30th birthday party on Saturday night, August 24. Despite several warning signs posted surrounding Mary River regarding the prohibition of swimming due to crocodile attacks, Cole and one of his friends stubbornly swam across the river and upon their return, Cole’s body was already in the jaws of a large crocodile. His friends witnessed the horrific incident and were traumatized, according to the NT police.

At least four crocodiles had been shot in the area following the incident, including the 4.8 meter crocodile that was believed to be responsible for the attack throughout search of the missing body, Parks and Wildlife ranger Tom Nichols said.

"Any animals that were in that range which we believed to be a possible target in the area where the accident took place, we usually take them out for simple reasons, we do autopsies on those and it's also closure for the families if there's anything there," Nichols added.

Cole’s body was found just 200m from where the attack happened about 5.30am (CST) on Monday.

Cole’s death is the first known crocodile-related fatality on the Mary River. According to crocodile expert Dr. Grahame Webb, Mary River is the habitat of thousands of saltwater crocodiles and swimming in the said river will mean a 100% chance of being attacked by a crocodile.

 “Parks and Wildlife put a huge effort now into public education, so because we've got a transient population up here it's really important people learn quickly, and I doubt there's much more you can do," Webb was quoted as saying.

Horned Monster Found On Spanish Beach

A horned monster has been found on Luis Siret Beach in Villaricos, Spain.

Discovered in its late decomposition stage, the said sea monster was around 4 to 5 meters in length and apparently has horns.

"A lady found one and we helped her retrieve the rest," Maria Sanches of Civil Protection in Cuevas said.  "We have no idea what it was. It really stank."

Due to the foul smell the decomposing remains produced, it had to be buried for safety and health issues.

Spanish locales were intrigued and left wondering if it was a preternatural sea creature from the depths of the sea that reached their place. The experts were also confounded with identity of the said creature though they had already formulated theories ranging from an oar fish to the remains of a shark.

Paco Toledano, the spokesman of PROMAR Sea Life Defence Program was also puzzled.

"It’s hard to know what we are dealing with," he said. "It’s very decomposed and we cannot identify what it is."

Toledano added that they had already sent information about the said remains to the experts in order to facilitate the identification of the creature.

'The Voice Of The Philippines' Live Shows To Kick Off This Sunday

"The Voice of the Philippines" has finally revealed the Top 24 artists from four teams who will compete in the much-awaited Live Shows beginning this Sunday, August 25, and face the decisive verdicts of the coaches and the viewing public.

Three artists from each team will perform in the first leg of the Live Shows this Sunday where they will perform songs chosen by them and their coaches. Representing their respective teams are Thor Dulay, Cora Dela Cruz, and Jessica Reynoso for coach Apl de Ap; Radha, RJ Dela Fuente, and Darryl Shy for coach Lea Salonga; Junji Arias, Morrisette Amon, and Eva Delos Santos for coach Sarah Geronimo; and Lee Grane, Myk Perez, and Talia Reyes for coach Bamboo.

The unique voting scheme for the Live Shows will only allow viewers to send in their votes during commercial breaks – a first on Philippine TV. The voting for each team will open after the performances of the three artists, and will close after a full commercial break. The poll results for all the teams will only be announced at the end of the show.

The artist from each team who gets the highest percentage of votes will be announced and thus, will be the first one to be saved. The coach will then have to choose who between his or her two remaining artists gets to stay and gets eliminated.

Before the Live Shows at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, “The Voice of the Philippines” will air the Life Show featuring the artists’ life stories and special performances this Saturday (Aug 24).

Star Records recently launched two new vocal boy groups under its label: the Fil-Am tennis heartthrobs turned pop duo ‘Perkins Twins’ and the classical-pop tenor trio, ‘The Angelos.’

'Pridyider' To Air On Cinema One

Horror movie "Pridyider," starring Andigenmann and JM de Guzman, is set to be aired on Cinema on Sunday, August 25.

“Pridyider” tells the story of Tina (Andi Eigenmann), a girl who is sent to the U.S. to live with her aunt because something happened to her parents—an incident that has never been explained to her. Hoping for a new start, she returns to her homeland and back into her family’s old house. There, she finds a companion in a young man named James (JM de Guzman), her childhood friend.

Days pass and Tina begins to notice strange occurrences, particularly in the kitchen. There, an antique refrigerator stands. Tina soon discovers that the appliance is haunted, dangerous, and hungry for human blood. When all efforts to remove the refrigerator fail, she is forced to dig into her own forgotten past to find a way to rid her household of all its evils.

Philippine Flood Death Toll Climbs To 20

Philippine flood death toll has risen to 20, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The government agency said the heavy flooding experienced in Luzon since early this week has left 41 persons injured and 4 others missing, as of August 23.

Based on the latest NDRRMC report, the numbers of flooded areas has reached to a total of 663 in 92 municipalities and cities under Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B and NCR. The cost of damage in Regions 1, 4A, 4B and CAR in relation to agriculture and infrastructures is estimated at Php 74,809,751.05 and Php 22,487, 725.46 respectively.

Last August 17, the reported Low Pressure Area hovering upon the islands of Luzon developed into a Tropical Depression named “Maring” which became a tropical storm the day after. For two consecutive days, August 19 and August 20, Tropical Storm Maring brought heavy to torrential rain falls leaving extensive flooding in the areas of Luzon.

NDRRMC said “Maring” left the Philippines’ area of responsibility in the morning of August 23.

Who says models above 30 years old should pack their bags and leave the glitz and glam of the modelling world for the younger, newer and fresher ones?

Brazilian beauty Gisele Bundchen proves that age doesn’t matter in the modelling world. She has been revealed as the world's highest-paid model for the seventh year running in a new ranking by Forbes.

The 33-year-old mother-of-two earned $42 million as combined from all of her profitable modelling contracts with H&M, Pantene, Oral-B and Sky HDTV and her role as the face of Chanel's 'Les Beiges' cosmetics line, to name a few. She is also a co-owner of Brazilian footwear company Grendene, and she's got her very own skin-care line called Sejaa.

According to Forbes, Bundchen's biggest source of income remains her merchandising partnerships, which include a lingerie line and multiple accessory collections. She gathered in almost six times more than former Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr, who landed second on the list with earnings of only $7.2million. It was also reported that she exceeded her footballer husband, Tom Brady, who earned $38 million dollars and only placed 11th.

While this may seem a totally big enough leap for her career, Bündchen's latest earnings don't quite match last year's total of $45 million, which is mainly due to the time she took her leave from the spotlight to give birth to her youngest daughter Vivian, her second child with NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

Other prominent figures in the list include British star Kate Moss, who is still earning a multimillion-dollar salary from her modelling contracts with Versace and Rimmel, to name a few, at the age of 39, and emerging Chinese superstar 25-year-old Liu Wen, who is the first Chinese model to star in a Victoria's Secret fashion show.

'NSYNC Reunion At MTV Video Music Awards 2013?

'NSYNC reunion seems to be the oldest fervent prayer for all the fanatics of this American boy band. This long overdue dream is about to be materialized as Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez will apparently reunite for a night in the MTV Video Music Awards according to the New York Post. Timberlake is the only one who made it big time and still going strong on his own as a solo artist.

Survivor Cast Announcement: 'Blood Vs Water' Castaways Revealed (Photo)

The cast of the fall edition of "Survivor" have been revealed by CBS on Wednesday.

According to the TV network, the upcoming 27th edition of "Survivor," themed "Blood vs. Water," will feature players competing with - and ultimately against - their loved ones who share the same goal: to outwit, outplay, outlast and ultimately be crowned Sole Survivor.

Included in the cast are former NFL football player Brad Culpepper, competing with his wife and "Survivor: One World" castaway Monica; and "Big Brother 12" winner Hayden Moss, playing with his girlfriend Kat Edorsson, also from "Survivor: One World." Moss is the first former "Big Brother" HouseGuest to appear on "Survivor."

"Survivor: Blood vs. Water," which was filmed at Palaui Island, Cagayan in the Philippines, will showcase the return of Redemption Island, where castaways who have been eliminated from the game can seek redemption and return for a chance to win the million dollar prize. The twist this season, however, is loved ones will be forced to choose whether to "save" their partner on Redemption Island and switch places with them, thus allowing their loved one to immediately re-enter the game, or leave them in exile to survive on their own.

New 'The Counselor' Trailer Debuts Online

Directed by blockbuster maker Ridley Scott (“Gladiator,” “Black Hawk Down,” “Alien,” “American Gangster”) and written by Cormac McCarthy, a Pulitzer Prize winner whose works have been turned into acclaimed films such as “No Country For Old Men,” “The Road” and “All the Pretty Horses,” the suspense-thriller stars Hollywood’s most multi-faceted actors including Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz.

Lockheed Martin F-35B Accomplishes First Night Vertical Landing (Video)

Lockheed Martin F-35B, the short takeoff and vertical landing variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft, successfully completed its first nocturnal vertical landing.

According to Lockheed Martin officials, the operation was conducted by a US Marine Corps test pilot Lt. Col. Russell Clift on August 14, 2013 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. The maneuver was done during the second phase of the three developmental tests known as Ship Suitability Sea Trials, which initial sea-trials started last October 2011 using the deck of an amphibious assault ship, the USS WASP, as a vertical landing zone.

Lockheed Martin's F-35B reportedly accomplished its 500th vertical landing a week prior to this 2nd phase of developmental test.  The first successful vertical landing was done last March 2009.

Lockheed Martin said that the success of  F-35B in these sea-trials served as the key for its Initial Operating Capability (IOC) for the US Marine Corps in 2015.

Lockheed Martin F-35B is said to possess the most lethal fighter characteristics - supersonic speed, radar-evading stealth, extreme agility and short takeoff/vertical landing capability.

"With the F-35B in their fleet, expeditionary forces, like the U.S. Marine Corps, have a decisive advantage over their adversaries," the Bethesda, MD-based Lockheed Martin said. "The F-35B’s versatility will revolutionize expeditionary combat power in all threat environments by allowing operations from major bases, damaged airstrips, remote locations and a wide range of air-capable ships."

August 21 Holiday Pay Rules

August 21 is a non-working holiday in the Philippines to commemorate the death of democracy icon, Benigno Aquino,Jr. According to the Department of Labor and Employment, the said holiday has the following pay rules:

Regular Vs Non-Working Holiday Pay Rules (DOLE)

1. If the employee did not work, the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply, unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on this special non-working day;

2. For work done during this special non-working day, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her daily rate on the first eight hours of work [(Daily Rate x 130%)+ Cost of Living Allowance] ;

3. For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on said day (Hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked);

4. For work done during the special day that also falls on his or her rest day, he or she shall be paid an additional 50 percent of his or her daily rate on the first eight hours of work [(Daily Rate x 150%) + Cost of Living Allowance]; and

5. For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work) during a special day that also falls on his or her rest day, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on said day (hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 150% x 130% x number of hours worked).

254 Guns Seized, 19 Smugglers Busted By NYPD

The New York Police Department said it seized 254 guns and apprehended 19 smugglers, including Brooklyn’s rising rapper Matthew Best, in the agency's largest weapon bust to date.

The rapper's social media accounts said to have served as a breakthrough in the investigation as he posted several pictures and videos of guns and hard cash. Wiretapping of Best reportedly led to the discovery of the illegal operation and subsequently, an undercover agent was embroiled to the scene posing as a gun broker and gathered more evidences.

According to the authorities, two of the defendants, Walter Walker of North Carolina and Earl Campbell of South Carolina, obtained guns from their respective hometowns where gun-related law restrictions are loose. These weapons were transported to New York via low-cost Chinatown buses to avoid security checks. The said guns varied in sizes and from small guns to rifles and machine guns.

The 19 illegal gun dealers were charged with "crimes including conspiracy, selling firearms and weapons possession in a 552-count indictment filed by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor."

"This case underscores some disturbing truths; that illegal guns proliferate and circulate in higher crime, majority-minority neighborhoods, and that every day, New York City police officers must perform incredibly dangerous work to prevent guns from getting into criminal hands," Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said Monday. "Some people don’t want to think about who, and how many victims, might have suffered, had the NYPD not identified and intercepted these gun traffickers. But the eventual consequences are too costly for law enforcement to not intervene."

The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg is glad of this development saying that "there is no doubt that the seizure of these guns has saved lives."

The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T Spider is also the new record holder for the most expensive road-going car of any kind ever sold at auction as well as the second most expensive car to ever be sold at auction, with all proceeds being donated to charitable cause.

The 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T Spider is one of the world’s rarest cars, with only 10 cars having been built in the 1960s, commissioned by Ferrari’s American importer, Luigi Chinetti. The particular car sold in Monterey this weekend is even rarer for the fact that it has been in the same family’s ownership since new. The price realized  for the car establishes a new world record for a Ferrari sold at public auction and makes the car the second most valuable car to ever be sold at auction as well as the most valuable road-going car ever sold at auction. Philippine ship collision fatalities have now increased to 52, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday morning.

According to PCG, 9 more bodies were recovered from the sunken passenger ship M/V St. Thomas Aquinas, which collided with the cargo ship Sulpicio Express Siete near the port of Cebu at around 9:30pm on Friday.

M/V St. Thomas Aquinas, which started sinking just a few minutes after the collision, was reportedly carrying 723 passengers and 118 crew members or a total of 841 people, of whom 68 are still missing. The cargo ship, which had 36 crew members on board, did not sink.

Lt. Gen. Roy Deveraturda, the commander of the military's Central Command, said full-scale underwater operation must be done. However, due to bad weather condition the operation was temporarily suspended Saturday afternoon to protect the  divers’ safety.

In an official statement, 2GO Group, the owner of the passenger ship, said that alongside the ongoing search and rescue operations, they are also helping in the containment of the oil spill from the capsized ferry by flying in oil spill experts to professionally handle the situation in Lawis Ledge, Talisay City.

The company initially deployed 2 Malayan tugboats equipped with a 400 meter oil spill boom, oil skimmer, solvent boom pads, all used to absorb and contain the oil spill of the sunken M/V Thomas Aquinas.

Megan Young Hailed Miss World Philippines 2013 Winner

Megan Young was named Miss World Philippines 2013 during the pageant coronation night held at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old actress bested 24 other lovely candidates to take home the coveted crown, winning over P1 million in cash prizes and the prestige of representing the Philippines in this year's Miss World competition to be held in Indonesia on September 28.

During the Question-and-Answer portion, the Top 5 finalists were all asked why they want be the next Miss World Philippines and Young's winning answer was:

"Miss World Philippines is selfless and to be selfless, you need to have a heart. If I become Miss World Philippines, I will pour my heart and my soul into helping others which is what Miss World is... Beauty in giving. Thank you."

The "Misibis Bay" star, who represented Olongapo City, also bagged a number of special awards including Best in Fashion Runway, Miss Sports, Miss Bold and Glamorous, and Miss Bench Body.

World Record Halibut Caught By German Angler

World record halibut will have a new face to beat as soon as the International Game Fish Association confirms a German national’s claim of having caught the largest halibut via a rod and line.

Marco Liebenow, a fisherman from Germany has allegedly hauled the largest Atlantic halibut to date from the waters of Norway during his fishing trip with Angelreisen Hamburg . It is said to weigh at an astonishing 513 pounds, apparently beating the current world record of a Pacific Halibut at 459 pounds set in 1996 and another Atlantic Halibut at 418 pounds set in 2004.

It is said that Liebenow and 3 other companions have taken an hour and half to bring this 9 feet long Atlantic Halibut to shore. As this halibut is too large to be heaved into their fishing boat, they have had to tie the fishtail using a rope and dragged it towards the wharf.

Liebenow is ecstatic with the experience. According to David Bottcher, the representative of the angling tour company who has translated the non-English speaker Liebenow’s thoughts that “It took four men to bring it towards their 19-foot boat and then they could only put a sling around its tail and pull it back to the harbour. Marco was elated afterwards and celebrated with the boat skipper and their housekeeper by having a few beers. Before he left for the trip, he called us first to ask for a few hints about how and where to fish - I guess our advice paid off. It looks like it is a world record for a halibut but we are waiting to have it confirmed.”

Liebenow is definitely now the envy of angler fanatics.

8-Year-Old Never Ages, Key To Fountain Of Youth?

An 8-year-old who never ages might be a preposterous idea but believe it or not, an American girl has this very unusual condition which prevents her body to develop in a normal rate.

Gabby Williams of Billings, Montana is just 8 years old yet she only weighs 5 kilograms, just like a newborn baby. When her parents realized that she is not growing, they immediately sought medical help and the doctors soon found out that Gabby has a rare disorder, which name is unknown, and the cause and pathophysiology have yet to be discovered. What is certain is that her condition slows her body's development and aging process. This is almost the opposite of Progeria, a genetic disease which presents signs and symptoms of aging at a very early age.

Gabby's parents have been taking care of her as if she is a newborn child specially that her condition has also caused her blindness and inability to speak. According to Medical researcher Richard F Walker who has been studying Gabby’s case for two years, Gabby may have a genetic impairment that hinders the human body’s "developmental inertia." He said that "In some people, something happens to them and the development process is retarded. The rate of change in the body slows and is negligible."

Gabby’s case,  together with a 29-year-old American with the body of a 10-year-old, and a 31-year-old Brazilian woman with a body like a toddler, will be featured on the TLC documentary "40-Year-Old Child, a New Case" to be aired on the 19th of August.

If the mystery of this case will be unveiled, biological immortality might be unlocked as with the words of Dr. Walker: "If we could identify the gene and then at young adulthood we could silence the expression of developmental inertia, find an off-switch, when you do that, there is perfect homeostasis and you are biologically immortal."
